Museum Studies Internship
For my GLM Capstone, I submitted my internship with The Wolfsonian-FIU museum that I did during the Fall 2021 semester.
Supervisor: Marlene Tosca, The Wolfsonian Art Director
My Role
As a Museum Studies Intern, I was exposed to a variety of museum projects and careers. I worked with and was mentored by various departments during my time at the museum. This allowed me to see the ins and outs of how a museum functions and the collaboration that goes into displaying an exhibition for public view.
Many Images
During my time at the Wolfsonian, I took many pictures in order to document my experience and what I was seeing while I worked with each department.
Aerial Vision
One of the benefits of this internship was that I got the chance to see how an exhibit can start from virtually nothing and develop into an amazing experience for visitors. "Aerial Vision" was the name of the exhibit that I got to see grow from a few sheets of paper on the walls to a fully decorated exhibit with engaging material.
Blog Post
From the start of my internship, I was told that I would be researching an object of my choosing from the museum's collection and writing an article about it for the museum's blog. Within my first few days there, I knew I wanted to look into the three 1929 fire extinguishers that no one at the museum knew much about.
Final Presentation
At the very end of my internship, I was tasked with creating a presentation about my entire experience. While I have already discussed the major aspects of my internship above, the PowerPoint to the right is what I presented to my supervisor and the rest of the Wolfosnian team.
